South Carolina Football vs. Furman:
Grades for the offense

A+. South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler was almost perfect. Going 25-27 passing, #7 tallied 345 yards and 3 passing touchdowns. He also scored a rushing touchdown early in the game. The offensive line was much better at protecting him against Furman, and Rattler delivered. The highlight of his performance (if forced to pick just one) came at the end of the 1st half. In just 3 plays and 20 seconds of clock, Rattler led the Gamecock offense 75 yards for a touchdown. Those three plays included a bomb to Xavier Legette for 50+ yards, a pass interference call drawn by Legette, and a 7-yard touchdown to O’Mega Blake.
True freshman LaNorris Sellers came in and dazzled, as well. A perfect 4-4 day included 80 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sellers hit 5-star Nyck Harbor on a perfect back-shoulder throw and Tyshawn Russell on a 50-yard strike for his two scores.. . RUNNING BACKS. B-. There was nothing special about what the South Carolina running backs provided against Furman. Sure, things looked better than they did against North Carolina, but they still managed just over 100 yards on the ground for the game.
However, considering they had -2 yards a week, this was a big improvement in the running game. Dakereon Joyner and Mario Anderson both flashed some impressive moments for the garnet and black, and Joyner added over 50 yards receiving. Freshman DJay Braswell showed he has some speed and could factor into the running back room later in the season with some more seasoning.. . South Carolina Gamecocks

B+. Xavier Legette, once again, was phenomenal. #17 added over 100 yards and a touchdown, including two long throws (a 50-yard bomb to set up a score and a 43-yard touchdown). He also drew a pass interference flag. Ahmarean Brown had some good moments before exiting the game with an injury, and his replacement Eddie Lewis played well. Nyck Harbor and Tyshawn Russell caught touchdowns on their first career touches as members of the South Carolina football program.
The tight ends weren’t factors really in this game.. . OFFENSIVE LINE. B. The Gamecock offensive line still did not get enough push in the run game, but compared to last week, they were road graders. Moving from -2 yards to 108 yards on the ground from week 1 to week 2 is a marked improvement. Even more staggering of an improvement was seen in the passing game, however. The Gamecocks gave up zero sacks until garbage time after surrendering 9 last week.. . South Carolina Gamecocks
