South Carolina Football vs. Furman:
Other Notes

  • The offensive line struggled again, but it was a little better than against North Carolina.
    • The team’s run blocking was not good enough as little to no push was the reality more times than not.
    • Spencer Rattler was pressured a fair amount, but he did not take a sack.
  • Spencer Rattler was elite once again.
    • In the first half, #7 went 23/25 for 257 yards and 2 touchdowns.
    • In the second half, he added almost 90 more yards on just two attempts before exiting the game in the 3rd quarter for backup Luke Doty.
    • The final drive of the first half saw Rattler lead a 3-play, 75-yard drive that took just 20 seconds of time off the clock. Rattler hit Xavier Legette for a 54-yard bomb to open the drive.
  • LaNorris Sellers was the third quarterback to play for the Gamecocks on Saturday, but it didn’t take long for him to do something special. He escaped the pass rush and unloaded a 50-yard strike to Tyshawn Russell for a score. Russell looked smooth on the play, as well.
  • Dowell Loggains can call plays. His run game struggles (primarily the blocking on the offensive line), but he seems to have a good feel for the game and
  • Tree Babalade and Trovon Baugh played on the Gamecocks’ second touchdown drive of the night. It was, arguably, the Gamecocks’ best pass blocking drive of the season. They came back out of the game after the drive but returned and played rotational roles the rest of the way.
  • Luke Doty continues to play wide receiver and scored a touchdown. He was the first quarterback off the bench in garbage time but was outshined by freshman LaNorris Sellers.
  • The Gamecocks’ first sack of the season came courtesy of a combined effort between defensive end Tyreek Johnson and blitzing defensive back DQ Smith.
  • Speaking of Smith, he played some snaps at nickel after Keenan Nelson left the game with injury. KaJuan Banks got most of the rest of the snaps until garbage time.
  • Defensive tackle TJ Sanders was really good in the 3rd quarter, including picking up a tackle for loss and a sack on back-to-back plays.
  • Nyck Harbor and Pup Howard played sparingly. However, Harbor got his first career touch and first career touchdown on LaNorris Sellers’ second drive.
  • Running back Mario Anderson will be in line to play more at running back for the Gamecocks as he hit the hole harder than any other back on the team on Saturday.
  • Djay Braswell got his first action.
