South Carolina Football: 5-star Gamecock commitment recruiting fellow 5-star during Saturday visit

Saturday has the chance to be a big day for Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football team. The Gamecocks need to bounce back after a tough showing in week 1 against North Carolina, and they will be continuing to work toward the future as they unveil some new gameday experiences and have their first gameday recruiting weekend of the 2023 season.

The recruiting efforts will be critical as Beamer and his staff look to keep the positive momentum going after back-to-back seasons exceeding expectations for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina football is one of just 12 programs in the country to have a 5-star prospect committed in the class of 2024. EDGE Dylan Stewart from Friendship Collegiate Academy made his public commitment to the Gamecocks on August 1st.

Stewart has said that he is completely locked in with the Gamecocks, and he will be on campus this weekend looking to do some recruiting of his own as the Gamecocks are welcoming a handful of visitors to the team’s game against the Furman Paladins.

Class of 2025 5-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin will be the biggest uncommitted name on campus, according to a report from GamecockCentral’s Wes Mitchell. Like Stewart, Griffin is one of the top defensive linemen in his high school class, ranked in the top-5 regardless of position according to all four major recruiting services.

As a player, Griffin is a mauler who is disruptive against the run and the pass. He is strong enough and aggressive enough to become a dominant run defender inside as a 6’5″ and 285-pound nose tackle. He is also athletic enough to play on the EDGE in certain situations or as a 3-technique tackle, as well.

Griffin is a high school teammate of current South Carolina football pledge David Bucey (class of 2024 safety/linebacker) at Savannah Christian Prep School.
