South Carolina Football players who could play more against Furman:
Defensive Back Jalon Kilgore

This one might be cheating as Jalon Kilgore already got a lot of snaps on defense in week 1 after starting safety Nick Emmanwori left the game with injury. However, Kilgore was the third man to play the strong safety spot after Emmanwori and redshirt senior BJ Gibson. That won’t be the case against Furman.

Emmanwori is still the starter but is expected to miss the game with his hamstring ailment, opening the door for a new starter. King-Demenian Ford is listed as Emmanwori’s backup, while Kilgore is listed as the backup to free safety DQ Smith, but defensive backs coach Torrian Gray has enough faith in Kilgore to play him at free safety, too, as evident by Saturday night.

Kilgore racked up double-digit tackles in his part-time role against the ‘Heels, and he is expected to play even more this week.

Kilgore was one of the most hyped freshmen on the entire South Carolina football team this summer and fall, and his play so far has justified the talk. If he continues his strong play, the Gamecock coaching staff will have to figure out a way to keep him on the field when Emmanwori returns.

Fans can expect Kilgore to play a lot this weekend, and he might see time at both safety and nickel depending on the team’s future plan for the talented freshman.
