SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 2:
No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats (Preseason 8th)

A new-look Kentucky offense struggled in the first quarter against Ball State but found their footing after exiting the opening stanza trailing 7-3. NC State transfer quarterback Devin Leary was rusty after missing most of last season with injury, but he had some throws that show that Big Blue Nation will be very happy with their team’s quarterback play if he returns to form.

Vanderbilt transfer running back Ray Davis ate up over 100 yards on the ground on just 14 carries, but the offense as a whole was not as good as its 44 points would indicate as it was inconsistent and aided by a kickoff return from the dynamic Barion Brown. Dane Key had a good showing, snagging almost 100 yards worth of passes and a touchdown.

The UK defense was very good against the run but gave up an efficient day passing to Ball State quarterbacks. The defensive front was in the backfield most of the day, logging 8 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. They also recovered two BSU fumbles.

Kentucky plays two more cupcakes before playing the SEC’s worst two teams (Vanderbilt and Florida). This means that the Wildcats could be 5-0 and much higher up these power rankings before beginning a difficult stretch of games in which they play @Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee, @Mississippi State, Alabama, @South Carolina, and @Louisville.
