SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 2:
No. 10 South Carolina Gamecocks (Preseason: 6th)

The first shakeup in the power rankings comes in the form of Shane Beamer’s garnet and black squad. The Gamecocks of South Carolina looked terrible up front against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday, and that is a major red flag in the SEC.

The Carolina offensive line might have been the worst-performing unit in the entire SEC in week 1 as they gave up nine sacks and earned -2 rushing yards for the game.

Providing a bit of hope for USC fans is the fact that Spencer Rattler performed extremely well despite the circumstances around him, and wide receiver Xavier Legette led all of college football in receiving yards over the weekend.

Despite the awful performance, the Gamecocks were never out of the game against a good North Carolina squad, so perhaps all is not lost for Beamer’s team. They will hope to get back on track against FCS power Furman before an unenviable date in Athens with the Georgia Bulldogs in week 3.

A week 4 contest against Mississippi State in Columbia might be the best opportunity to learn exactly who the Gamecocks will be in 2023, but they did not show enough in their first opportunity of the season to warrant a higher place than 10th in the power rankings.
