SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 2:
No. 11 Missouri Tigers (Preseason 11th)

Missouri opened its 2023 season against a bad South Dakota squad that lost both of its games against FBS competition last year by a combined score of 62-3. The Tigers got off to a fast start, leading 28-3 at halftime but couldn’t get anything going after halftime.

The teams played to a 7-7 tie in the second half. Quarterback Brady Cook was sharp in the first two quarters, but Sam Horn played the third and fourth and was not very good, perhaps ending the mild quarterback controversy in Columbia. Running back Cody Schrader had a very game, putting himself among the top rushers in the nation so far in 2023.

As expected the Tigers’ defense stifled the run against the Coyotes but could not force a turnover in 60 plays.

It was not a real test against South Dakota, and Mizzou will welcome another outmatched team to Faurot Field next week when the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders come to town. A week 3 contest against Kansas State will be the real determiner as to whether or not Missouri should be thought of with more respect among SEC football programs.
