SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 2:
No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide (Preseason 2nd)

Alabama is still Alabama, no matter what too many talking heads tried to say this offseason. Nick Saban’s team is among the college football elite, just as they have been for the past 15 seasons.

Under new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, Jalen Milroe won the starting quarterback job and looked very good in the ‘Tide’s 56-7 victory over Middle Tennessee State. Milroe’s 5 touchdowns were scored effortlessly before Tyler Buchner (from Notre Dame like Rees) and Ty Simpson got into the game.

Despite playing many backups and even third-stringers at times on Saturday, the Crimson Tide looked stout on defense.

The difficulty of schedule increases dramatically starting next week as the Texas Longhorns begin a nine-game stretch of tough opponents who will all be eager to try to knock off the mighty Alabama football program.

If Jalen Milroe is good enough to hold back Buchner and Simpson from making real pushes for the starting job, then he will be good enough to lead the Crimson Tide to national title contention.
