SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 2:
No. 6 Arkansas Razorbacks (Preseason 10th)

Playing away from Fayetteville in Little Rock, the Arkansas Razorbacks still beat the Western Carolina Catamounts soundly in week 1, but the 56-13 score is not the biggest takeaway for Sam Pittman’s team. No, the most important news out of the Hog’s program is that KJ Jefferson is back.

The big quarterback missed a good portion of Arkansas’ 2022 season, and it was no coincidence that his absence came at the same time as the Razorbacks’ struggles last season. Jefferson showed he is fully healthy this weekend, throwing for 246 yards on 18/23 passing and 4 total touchdowns.

The running game was only average for offensive coordinator Dan Enos, but star running back Rocket Sanders still found the end zone twice.

The much-maligned Arkansas defense was among the country’s worst in 2022, especially against the pass, but the team’s 4 interceptions on Saturday provide some hope that improvement is imminent in 2023.

If that improvement does come, Arkansas could become a real player in the SEC West this season.
