SEC Football Power Rankings: Week 2
By Kevin Miller
The SEC football standings currently stand with the mighty Vanderbilt Commodores on top as the conference’s only 2-0 team. No conference games have been played yet, and none will be played in week 2, either, though some really interesting out-of-conference games are on the docket.
Some SEC football programs have been disappointing through the season’s opening weekend, while others have given their fans reason for optimism. LSU, South Carolina, and Florida are the only teams with a loss, and all three teams did not look as good in their first game as their fans had hoped they would.
Big-time players have made big-time plays, and unexpected stars have emerged, as well. Joe Milton (Tennessee), Carson Beck (Georgia), Jalen Milroe (Alabama), Graham Mertz (Florida), and Payton Thorne (Auburn) took over as their team’s starting quarterbacks, and Xavier Legette (WR, South Carolina) and Cody Schrader (RB, Missouri) put themselves among the national leaders in yards for their positions.
New head coaches and coordinators have made their debuts, and long-entrenched program leaders continued their tenures. Billy Napier’s seat continues to get hotter in Gainesville, and Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher also will need to continue winning to keep their jobs safe.
Preseason rankings have varied from outlet to outlet, but through one week of the college football season (and two weeks for Vandy), which SEC football teams are the best teams in the league? Which ones belong toward the bottom?
Here are the Garnet and Cocky power rankings for the early goings of the SEC football season.
