South Carolina football head coach Shane Beamer spoke to the media on Tuesday, and he gave an update on the Gamecocks’ injury situation heading into the team’s week 2 matchup with the in-state Furman Paladins.

The South Carolina football headman had given an update on the injury situation on Sunday, but some things have shifted over the last two days.

Beamer announced the unfortunate news that redshirt junior linebacker Mo Kaba was officially out for the season with a knee injury. He tore the ACL in his other knee last season, and he has now had three major knee injuries since high school.

Cason Henry, as expected, is also out this week.

Several players were given the designation of doubtful for this Saturday’s contest against Furman.

Safety Nick Emmanwori, offensive lineman Markee Anderson, defensive end Jatius Geer, and defensive back David Spaulding all were called doubtful during Beamer’s press availability.

With the exception of these players and the other long-term injuries to offensive linemen Jaylen Nichols and Ryan Brubaker, Beamer called the rest of the roster “good to go.” He then backtracked slightly on linebacker Bam Martin-Scott, saying that he was “hopeful” that the senior would be ready to play.

When asked specifically about wide receiver Juice Wells, the Gamecocks’ top pass catcher’s head coach shared that the receiver told him this week that he was playing. “Don’t try to limit me at practice,” quipped Wells, flirting with the line between being serious and joking with his coach.

Fellow receiver Ahmarean Brown left the North Carolina game but is expected to play against Furman.

The Gamecocks will look to get back on track on Saturday after their disappointing showing in Charlotte against the Tar Heels.

Furman is a very good team at the FCS level (currently ranked 3rd in the country), but the talent difference between the South Carolina football program and the much smaller Paladins should allow the Gamecocks an opportunity to “fix” some of the problems that plagued them in last week’s loss.

The game is set for 7:30 at Williams-Brice Stadium on the SECNetwork+.
