Watch South Carolina football rival make fun of opponent, immediately give up 70-yard touchdown on first play of ugly loss
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football fans have a clear view of who the team’s biggest rival is. Of course, the Clemson Tigers from the upstate of South Carolina sit atop the Gamecock rival power rankings, and Carolina fans are still relishing in last season’s 31-30 victory in the Upstate.
However, after Clemson, views on the second-biggest rival to the South Carolina football program differ from fan to fan.
Some fans dislike the Georgia Bulldogs as UGA has faced off with the Gamecocks more than any non-Clemson program.
Others have severe animosity toward the North Carolina Tar Heels from the ACC days.
Gamecock Twitter seems to hate Tennessee as much as anyone because of how salty Volunteer fans have been since last year’s 63-38 beatdown in Columbia.
Another team some South Carolina football fans consider a rival is the Florida Gators. Despite not being a great team in 2022, the Billy Napier-led squad smacked the Gamecocks last season in Gainesville, and USC fans have a nasty taste in their mouth when thinking about the blue and orange.
The Gators opened their season on Thursday against Utah, but Florida defensive end Princely Umanmielen made news for the wrong reasons ahead of his team’s game against the Utes.
In a since-deleted Instagram story, Umanmielen made fun of Utah’s Rice-Eccles Stadium, calling it “lil.”
It didn’t take long for Umanmielen to have to eat some crow as his defensive unit surrendered a 70-yard touchdown on the first play of the game when Utah backup quarterback Bryson Barnes hit Money Parks deep for a score and elicited one of the loudest moments of the young season, even in a “lil” stadium.
Not only did the Gators give up a 70-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to a backup quarterback, but the play got off, in part, because Umanmielen was absolutely stone-walled on his pass rush attempt by true freshman left tackle Spencer Fano.
That was far from the last bad moment for Florida on the night as Utah whipped up on the Gators by a final score of 24-11.
