South Carolina Basketball releases official heights and weights
By Kevin Miller
The South Carolina basketball program looks vastly different heading into the 2023-2024 season than it did this time a year ago. With nine newcomers, some challenges will present themselves in the team developing chemistry and cohesiveness and it getting acclimated to coach Paris’ system.
However, a deeper look into the recently released official roster reveals a team that should be better.
The Gamecocks lost GG Jackson to the NBA but gained another super freshman forward in 4-star Collin Murray-Boyles. CMB is joined in the freshman class by intriguing offensive player (and potential elite shooter) Arden Conyers and defensive-minded guard Morris Ugusuk. Walk-on freshmen Austin Herro (brother of NBA star Tyler Herro) and Danny Grajzl add some guard depth to the roster.
Carolina had senior forward Hayden Brown finish his career, but they added three graduate transfer forwards in his stead when BJ Mack (Wofford), Stephen Clark (The Citadel), and Myles Stute (Vanderbilt) joined the program this offseason.
The three forwards have three completely different games and could, theoretically, all see the floor at the same time. Their games are so different, in fact, that there is a 60-pound weight difference between Mack and Clark, and Stute is listed as a guard on the roster, indicating he will play a lot on the perimeter this season.
Sharpshooting combo guard Chico Carter left in the transfer portal, but he was replaced by a true point guard in Ta’Lon Cooper who can still shoot the ball, as well. Cooper is also a much better defender and floor general than any perimeter player who suited up for the Gamecocks in the 2022-2023 campaign.
Newcomers always present a certain amount of mystery until they step on the floor and play games, but some of the mystery behind the newest addition to the South Carolina basketball program have been erased with players’ heights, weights, and numbers being revealed this week.
