There are less than two weeks until South Carolina football takes on their border rival from the north in Charlotte in a College GameDay-attended Battle of the Carolinas on September 2nd.

Fans are growing restless, and that restlessness will continue to grow as fans consume the never-ending stream of content that leads up to the moment toe meets leather.

Some of that content is worth fans’ attention, and some of it isn’t, but anytime players receive accolades, those same fans will be all over the coverage of the preseason hype. “Why isn’t my favorite team’s player on the list?!” or “I can’t believe that guy was nominated for that award!” are just a few of the common social media refrains during list season.

On Tuesday, the hot takes were out in full force as the Coaches All-SEC teams were announced by the conference.

Multiple South Carolina football stars were voted to the All-SEC teams by the conference’s coaches, and the Gamecocks were one of eight programs to have a player voted to the All-SEC first team and one of five programs to have at least three players make the first team.

On the 1st team, wide receiver Antwane “Juice” Wells, punter Kai Kroeger, and placekicker Mitch Jeter (for kickoffs) were selected.

The 3rd team was represented by transfer tight end Trey Knox, running back Dakereon Joyner (as the all-purpose player), defensive lineman Tonka Hemingway (at defensive tackle), and cornerback Marcellas Dial.

No Gamecocks were selected to the 2nd team of the Coaches All-SEC squad.

South Carolina football’s seven All-SEC selections is a number that trails only Georgia (14), Alabama (14), LSU (11), and Texas A&M (8).

Notable omissions for the Gamecocks that have made other preseason All-SEC teams include quarterback Spencer Rattler, safety Nick Emmanwori, safety DQ Smith, wide receiver Xavier Legette (as a kick returner), Mitch Jeter (as a placekicker), and linebacker Mo Kaba.
