South Carolina Basketball: 4-star guard visiting finalist Gamecocks
By Kevin Miller
Lamont Paris’ South Carolina basketball squad has just one commitment so far in the class of 2024. Finnish forward Okku Federiko pledged his services to the Gamecocks at the same time as former teammate and class of 2023 guard Morris Ugusuk. Since then, USC has had some near misses on the recruiting trail, most notably 5-star guard Cam Scott from Lexington High School.
Last week, 4-star guard Elijah Crawford released a top-6 that included South Carolina basketball. The 6’2″ point guard followed up on that interest by scheduling a visit to check out the Gamecock program with an official visit this fall.
In fact, Crawford already has scheduled three official visits for this fall. His first visit will be one to Columbia to visit the Gamecocks, he will take another one to Paolo Alton to visit Stanford, and he will take a trip to Orlando to visit the UCF Golden Knights after that. Georgia, Mississippi State, and LSU are his other three finalists and could be in line for future visits.
The Augusta, Georgia native has spent time in his high school career playing in Augusta and Greenville, South Carolina before moving his talents more northward to New Hampshire and Brewster Academy.
Crawford grew up as a fan of his home state Georgia Bulldogs, but his recruitment appears to be open to all six of his finalists. He also has not gone as far as to say his decision-making process couldn’t include other schools, as well.
As a player, Crawford has a very high ceiling that could see him develop into a big-time two-way player at the college level if everything goes well in his development. He is a very good athlete with a confident jumper on the offensive end. As a defender, that same athleticism and decent length for the position allow him to swallow up opposing ball handlers.
