South Carolina football has a 4-star running back committed in the class of 2024 in Georgia native Matthew Fuller. However, with the Gamecocks’ need at the position, running backs coach Montario Hardesty has been fighting to secure a second commitment at the position in the class.

4-star running back Daniel Hill is the top player left on the board for the Gamecocks, and he has had a lot of positive things to say about USC in recent months.

Hill has whittled his list down to 8, down to 5, and down to 3, and South Carolina football continues making the cut.

He has called the Gamecocks “co-number one” and “one of the leaders” in his recruitment before, but his most recent comments are even more positive for the garnet and black.

On Tuesday, in talking with Phil Kornblut of SportsTalk, Hill gave South Carolina football fans even more optimism as his announced commitment date (August 23rd) draws nearer. Hill told the veteran sportswriter that “I’d say South Carolina would be the favorite right now.”

Even with Hill saying that South Carolina football is his favorite, his recruitment isn’t over. With a week to go before his decision date, Alabama and Tennessee are both still involved, and the ‘Tide appear to be the biggest threat to the Gamecocks’ efforts of landing Hill.

Hill is a native of Meridian, Mississippi, just under an hour and a half away from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, home of the Crimson Tide. ‘Bama has recruited Hill hard, and he has publicly acknowledged that he has at least one family member who would really like to see him play for the crimson and white.

Tennessee appears to be a distant third in Hill’s recruitment.

As a player, Hill is extremely versatile and has, at times, been ranked as a 4-star athlete by the recruiting industry. Hill has played a lot of running back and wide receiver on offense at the high school level, and he is slated to be Meridian’s starting quarterback for his senior campaign this fall. He is also a physical linebacker for the Wildcats.

Now rated as a 4-star running back, Hill, despite being about 6’2″ and 225 pounds, has track speed and won two different Mississippi state championships in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.
