South Carolina Basketball: 4-star guard headed to Columbia this fall
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina basketball narrowly missed out on landing 5-star wing Cam Scott from Lexington High School this past weekend. The Gamecocks are in need of some movement in the class of 2024 as head coach Lamont Paris only has one player committed in the class, and his roster will be losing at least four seniors after the 2023-2024 season.
One of the top targets on the South Carolina basketball’s recruiting board is 4-star guard KJ Greene.
Greene was one of the top players in the state of South Carolina when he attended Blythewood High School, just north of Columbia. He has since elected to play his senior season at Pace Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.
Greene is a true point guard who can do just about anything a team might need a point guard to do. He can handle the ball and run the offense. He can pass. He can shoot from outside the arc. He can score at the rim. He can even make shots in the mid-range and in heavy traffic. He is not a tremendous athlete, but at 6’2″, he has enough size to help make up for it at the point guard spot.
On Tuesday, Greene announced that he has scheduled four official visits so far for the fall. He spoke with Conrad Chow of ProInsight and revealed that he would be taking trips to UCF (9/16), Siena (9/30), Florida State (10/7), and South Carolina (10/14) this fall.
As his hometown team, South Carolina basketball is believed to be one of the favorites to land Greene. With point guard Ta’Lon Cooper out of eligibility after the season and combo guards Meechie Johnson and Jacobi Wright also being upperclassmen, picking up a player like Greene would be a huge get for Lamont Paris’ squad.
Greene took part in the Adidas All-American camp earlier this summer and is a fringe top-100 recruit nationally.
