In what feels like a scheduled piece of news, Aja Wilson has won another award.

The former South Carolina basketball standout is a two-time WNBA MVP, was the leading vote-getter in the 2023 WNBA All-Star Game, was the National Player of the Year in college, has won a WNBA Championship and an NCAA National Championship, picked up her first ESPY Award win last month, and routinely wins Player of the Week and Player of the Month awards in the WNBA.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Wilson was named the Western Conference Player of the Month for the second time this season. The July honor is her second consecutive Player of the Month award as she also received the award in June. She previously won the Western Conference Player of the Month award twice in 2020, once in 2021, and twice in 2022.

On the WNBA season, Aja Wilson is 5th in the league in scoring (20.7 points per game), 3rd in rebounding (9.5 boards per night), 1st in blocked shots (2.3 rejections per contest), 16th in steals (1.3 pilfers per game), and 6th in field goal percentage (shooting 55% from the field).

Since Wilson’s Las Vegas Aces lost fellow star forward Candace Parker due to foot and ankle injuries early in July, Wilson has improved her production to pick up the slack.

She has increased her scoring (up to 23 points per game), rebounding (up to 10.1 boards per game), blocked shots (up to 2.75 rejections per contest), steals (up to 1.75 takeaways per game), and field goal percentage (up to shooting 63.3% from the floor).

Aja Wilson is well on her way to a top-2 finish in the WNBA MVP voting in 2023 and could win the award for the third time in her already-legendary career. New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart and Wilson clearly are the two best players in the league and are the far-and-away frontrunners for this season’s MVP award.
