South Carolina Football’s No. 8 Most Otherworldly Player of All-Time:
Wide Receiver/Punt Returner Ace Sanders

The shiftiest player to ever play for South Carolina football, Ace Sanders was a menace for opposing tacklers to try to bring down. Sanders was so difficult to get ahold of that it sometimes seemed as if he was teleporting just out of reach of the outstretched arms of the defenders trying to tackle him to the ground.

Sanders was tiny by football standards (5’7″ and 170 pounds), but he was a huge part of winning ball games for some of the best Gamecock squads of all-time. Despite his stature, Sanders was the top punt returner in college football by the time he left the Gamecocks, and he went out with a bang with a three-touchdown performance in Carolina’s Outback Bowl victory over Michigan.

Arguably Ace Sanders’ most otherworldly moment came on his iconic punt return against Georgia. The top-6 matchup officially became a blowout in favor of the good guys when the Carolina return man shook most of the Bulldog coverage unit on his way to pay dirt.
