That’s right, college football fans: that smell in the air is the unmistakable aroma of a fast-approaching season. The season is officially just 30 weeks away with “week 0” games being played the last weekend of August, and bigger games (like South Carolina football taking on North Carolina with College GameDay in attendance) begin the next weekend.

With such a short time remaining before the 2023 season begins, Gamecock football fans are waiting with eager anticipation for anything that resembles news surrounding their favorite team.

On Thursday, a substantial piece of news dropped when the South Carolina football program announced its fall practice schedule.

The important dates to know leading up to the start of the season on September 2nd are listed below (all times are Eastern Standard Time):

The Gamecocks will report to fall camp on August 3rd, and fall practice will begin the next day on August 4th. The team will practice 25 of the next 30 days in preparation for the opener on September 2nd.

There will be media availability on several practice days, including availability from the head coach, assistant coaches, and select players on offense, defense, and special teams on the first day of camp, August 3rd.

Beamer (8/12, 8/22, 8/29), his coordinators and select assistants (8/23, 8/30), select offensive players (8/8, 8/15, 8/22, 8/29), and select defensive players (8/10, 8/16, 8/22, 8/29) will have other scheduled media availability.

Beamer will also be on the Carolina Calls radio show on (Wednesday) 8/23 for the preseason show and (the regular Thursday slot) 8/31 for the week 1 edition. Both shows will be at Backstreets Grill in downtown Columbia at 6:00.

Coach Beamer will be a part of the SEC teleconference on 8/30. He will be on the SEC teleconference every Wednesday (starting on 8/30) at 12:10.

The media will have limited access to practices on August 4th, 7th, 11th, and 17th.

The South Carolina football team will have intra-squad scrimmages on August 12th and 19th. After the first scrimmage, Shane Beamer will have a press availability period at Williams-Brice Stadium.

The first postgame teleconference of the season will take place on September 3rd (after the North Carolina game) following Sunday evening practice. The practice is set to start at 5:45, and the teleconference will begin at 7:15.

Classes begin for players on August 17th.
