Most who follow recruiting know that South Carolina football is in need across the defensive line. No defensive ends or defensive tackles are committed to the Gamecocks in the 2024 recruiting class, and only a handful of targets are known at this point in the recruiting cycle.
Less than three weeks ago, South Carolina football was put in a top-10 grouping by elite 4-star defensive tackle D’Antre Robinson. The Gamecocks’ chances at landing Robinson were viewed as a long shot, but with Carolina’s need at the position, some fans were keeping an eye on the Orlando native.
Robinson didn’t waste time making his choice after paring his list down to 10 as, on Thursday, the big man made his college choice known.

The top-300 Florida product made the choice that seemed apparent over the past two weeks when he committed to Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns. Most in the recruiting industry viewed Robinson as a heavy lean to the Longhorns, and that’s exactly how his recruitment played out in the end.
With Robinson officially off the board for the Gamecocks and fellow 4-star defensive lineman Liam Andrews picking Penn State on Friday, South Carolina football’s pickings are seemingly slim at defensive tackle.
Seven different defensive line targets committed to blue blood programs in the last few weeks as Robinson (Texas), Andrews (Penn State), Nnamdi Ogboko (Georgia), Nasir Johnson (Georgia), Jamonta Waller (Florida), DD Holmes (Florida State), and Quintavius Johnson (Georgia) all did not choose the Gamecocks despite heavy interest.
5-star EDGE Dylan Stewart is uncommitted and is deciding between the Gamecocks and another blue blood program, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Stewart is the only EDGE prospect who has taken an official visit to Columbia and remains uncommitted. D’Nas White is the only uncommitted defensive tackle recruit left who has taken an official visit to see South Carolina football.
