South Carolina Football: Former Southern Cal commitment lists Gamecocks in early grouping
By Kevin Miller
The recruiting world is a strange one. Some prospects provide almost nothing related to their recruitments and just commit to a team when they’re ready (like South Carolina football commits Fred Johnson, David Bucey, and Wendell Gregory). Others give updates at every step of the way, including massively inconsequential lists of top-43 schools and things of that nature.
On Tuesday, the Gamecocks were included in a top-25 list by former Southern Cal commitment Jett White.
A consensus 4-star recruit at defensive back, White is a California native in the class of 2025 who will need to add weight before playing at the next level. Listed at 6’2″ and 165 pounds, he already has collegiate length for a defensive back, but he is thin as a rising junior.
If the Los Alamitos native can add 15 or 20 pounds, he has a chance to be a star in college. His film shows that he has legitimate speed that likely will only improve as he gets older. White’s length is also a very coveted cornerback trait in the modern game.
As a freshman, White committed to Southern Cal as many California kids do, but he reopened his recruitment earlier this year. With two years left in his high school career, South Carolina football and the rest of the country likely will be waiting for a while on Jett White.
White’s list was not the only large one released on Tuesday as fellow 2025 4-star Sharlandiin “Zaqq” Strange (4-star EDGE from Pennsylvania) put out his top-22. Strange’s list also included South Carolina football.
A top-25 or top-22 list is nothing for fans to get too invested in following, but it is never a bad thing for South Carolina football to be included in any list for top talent. Gamecock fans should take it for what it is: an elite talent recognizes the program as one worth considering.
