South Carolina Football: Gamecocks in final group for 4-star Florida receiver
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football has one receiver committed in the class of 2024. 4-star Mazeo Bennett of Greenville High School in South Carolina is that one commitment, but with the amount of players leaving the receiving room after the 2023 season, the Gamecocks are in need of signing at least three players at the position this cycle.
4-stars Jonathan Paylor and Keylen Adams are at the top of Shane Beamer’s recruiting board, and both players have had the Gamecocks at the top of their lists recently. Paylor is deciding between South Carolina, NC State, North Carolina, Maryland, and Penn State, while Adams is choosing from South Carolina, Alabama, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Pittsburgh.
Both Paylor and Adams are set to announce their commitments this month.
A relatively new name with interest in South Carolina football is Zy’marion Lang. Lang is considered a 4-star prospect by Rivals and a 3-star recruit by the rest of the industry. The 6’3″, 170 pound wideout is extremely fast (he claims on his social media accounts to run a 4.31 in the 40-yard dash) but will need to add weight at the next level.
On Monday, Lang announced his final four schools.

Lang’s top-4 includes South Carolina, South Florida, Pittsburgh, and Kansas State. In his announcement, Lang also included that he plans to make his public commitment on Sunday, July 30th.
With South Carolina football already having Mazeo Bennett in the boat and expected to win the sweepstakes for one or both of Jonathan Paylor and/or Keylen Adams, it is unclear whether or not Lang is a take for the Gamecocks at this point. Based on expected commitment dates, both Paylor and Adams will have announced prior to Lang’s decision being made.
It is possible that the Gamecocks are willing to take 4 receivers in the class of 2024, so perhaps wide receivers coach Justin Stepp would take a commitment from Lang regardless of what happens with Paylor and Adams. Only time will tell. However, hailing from Palmetto, Florida, it only sounds right that Lang would end up as a South Carolina Gamecock.
