On Saturday, an elite EDGE rusher from Washington DC announced his college commitment. No, not that elite EDGE rusher from Washington DC. Dylan Stewart is set to make his choice later this summer “before the season starts” according to his own words after his official visit to see South Carolina football last weekend.

This weekend, though, Daniel “DD” Holmes, a 4-star defensive end prospect from Gonzaga High School made his decision known to the world.

Holmes announced in a video on Twitter his decision to commit to the Florida State Seminoles. He had been deciding between a top-6 of Florida State, South Carolina, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, and Rutgers.

Holmes added to his commitment by saying that he is “not the type of guy to flip.” He did not go as far as to say that he is completely shutting down his recruitment, but that’s the way things are looking.

South Carolina football was believed to be right in the mix for Holmes after a good official visit to campus in June, but the 4-star EDGE player’s recent official visit to Tallahassee put the ‘Noles over the top in his recruitment.

The Gamecocks currently do not have an EDGE player committed in the class of 2024, but 4-star linebacker commitment Fred “JayR” Johnson could grow into an EDGE before all is said and done.

Carolina is, as mentioned above, one of the finalists for the nation’s top player Dylan Stewart. Stewart is now a 5-star+, meaning that he is listed as a 5-star by all four major recruiting outlets (On3, 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals). The Washington DC native has referred to the Gamecocks as his leader in the past, and word is that South Carolina football is still ahead in his recruitment.

No other players who took official visits to Columbia this summer play defensive end, so the Gamecocks could be looking to bring some new names into the mix for visits on gameday this fall.
