South Carolina Basketball: Gamecocks learn SEC opponents for 2023-2024
By Kevin Miller
Just a day after the men’s team learned their 2023-2024 SEC opponents, Dawn Staley’s women’s South Carolina basketball team now knows their SEC schedule, as well.
On Thursday, the SEC released the 2023-2024 home and away games for each SEC program. Specific dates, times, and broadcast information will be announced later.
The full South Carolina basketball SEC schedule is listed below:
Home
Alabama Crimson Tide
Georgia Bulldogs
Ole Miss Rebels
Kentucky Wildcats
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Missouri Tigers
Tennessee Lady Volunteers
Vanderbilt Commodores
Away
Arkansas Razorbacks
Auburn Tigers
Florida Gators
Kentucky Wildcats
LSU Tigers
Missouri Tigers
Tennessee Lady Volunteers
Texas A&M Aggies
The most difficult game on the schedule at first glance is, of course, the game in Baton Rogue against the LSU Tigers. South Carolina basketball dominated last year’s matchup, an 88-64 beatdown that was even more dominant than the score would indicate.
However, LSU is returning their top player in Angel Reese, and the Tigers are better and more confident coming off of a championship run last year, while the Gamecocks are replacing five players who were drafted in the 2023 WNBA Draft (Aliyah Boston, Laeticia Amihere, Zia Cooke, Brea Beal, and Victaria Saxton) and two other contributing seniors.
Coming off of yet another Final Four appearance, the Gamecocks might not be favored to win the SEC for the first time in what feels like an eternity. Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers won the national championship after the Gamecocks fell to Iowa in the Final Four national semifinals. The Tigers followed that up by signing two of the top transfer portal players on the market in Hailey Van Lith and Aneesah Morrow.
It would appear that the winner of the showdown in Baton Rogue would be in the driver’s seat in the SEC. Teams like Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Kentucky are set to be good squads, but the Gamecocks and Tigers should finish the year at the top of the conference. Both teams are ranked in the top-10 of every preseason poll.
