South Carolina Football: Priority receiver target Jonathan Paylor makes announcement
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football is in the middle of one of its most important stretches of recruiting in recent memory. Having just finished up a massive month of June loaded with official (and unofficial) visitors, the Gamecocks have had five commitments in the last two weeks.
Four of those commitments have announced themselves publicly (5-star punter/kicker Mason Love, 3-star linebacker Fred Johnson, 4-star running back Matthew Fuller, and 3-star DB/LB David Bucey), and one is still a mystery.
On top of the commitments that have already happened, several top South Carolina football targets have mentioned that they would be announcing their college choices sometime during the month of July.
4-star receiver Keylen Adams and 4-star safeties Malcolm Ziglar and Kaj Sanders have said they would announce in July, and 4-star running back Daniel Hill and 5-star EDGE Dylan Stewart have said they wish to announce before their senior season begins.
On Tuesday, 4-star wide receiver priority target Jonathan Paylor announced his top-5 schools.
Paylor, who has said he wishes to make his commitment in a ceremony in July, announced that South Carolina, North Carolina, NC State, Maryland, and Penn State are his five finalists. He has taken official visits to see the Gamecocks, Tar Heels, Wolf Pack, and Terrapins and has visited Carolina, North Carolina, and NC State numerous times as an unofficial visitor.
As a player, Paylor is a big-time threat with the ball in his hands. The Under Armour All-American possesses track speed but also is shifty in the open field and has enough strength to run through would-be tacklers, something he did often as he moonlighted as a running back at times for Cummings High School in Burlington, North Carolina.
Paylor is a consensus 4-star prospect and is a top-100 recruit according to both Rivals and ESPN. He is believed to be deciding between South Carolina, North Carolina, and NC State, but Maryland and Penn State are factors as they are included in his top-5.
