Over the weekend, South Carolina football was on the receiving end of tons of recruiting news. On Friday, 4-star running back Matthew Fuller publicly announced his commitment to the Gamecocks, and over the weekend, one of the official visitors (3-star safety/linebacker David Bucey) made his own pledge to Shane Beamer and the South Carolina football program
5-star EDGE and the nation’s top player, Washington DC’s Dylan Stewart, announced his top-5, and as expected, the Gamecocks were firmly on his list. Florida running back D’Marius Rucker also named the Gamecocks a finalist for his services.
But not all news can be good news.
Coming off of a two-week stretch where the Gamecocks missed out on 4-star defensive tackles Jordan Thomas (Georgia) and Nasir Johnson (Florida) and 3-star defensive lineman Quintavius Johnson (Georgia), another Gamecock target at defensive tackle announced a commitment to a program other than South Carolina.
On Sunday, 3-star defensive tackle Nnamdi Ogboko announced his college decision in a post on his personal Twitter account.
Ogboko committed to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs over significant interest from South Carolina, Florida, and Rutgers. His decision comes on the heels of Georgia offering his brother, 2026 4-star offensive tackle Ekene Ogboko, a scholarship to join the program. It is unclear if the brothers (who are two recruiting classes apart) view themselves as a “package deal” or if they will each handle their own recruitments independently.
The North Carolina defensive tackle was one of several tackles that the Gamecocks were in on in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
Now with Ogboko off the board, D’Nas White (3-star DT from Concord, North Carolina) and Liam Andrews (4-star OL/DT from Brookline, Massachusetts) appear to be the only defensive tackle options still in play for the Gamecocks barring a new name popping up or flipping from a previous commitment.
There is still an unannounced #WelcomeHome commitment floating out there who likely will reveal himself soon.
