South Carolina basketball had a season to forget in Lamont Paris’ first year at the helm. The Gamecocks tied a program record for most losses in a season (21), were one-and-done in the SEC Tournament, and had off-the-court drama that centered around their head coach and best player.
The good news for South Carolina basketball fans is that the 2023-2024 version of the CourtCocks will look almost unrecognizable from the prior year. Seven players from last year’s team are gone, and other than big man Josh Gray, guards Meechie Johnson and Jacobi Wright, and wing Zachary Davis, the rest of the expected rotation players will be new faces.
GG Jackson (NBA Draft), Hayden Brown (graduation), and Chico Carter (transfer portal) are the biggest losses of the offseason, but the Gamecocks have brought in considerable talent through the high school ranks and via the transfer portal. High-profile players like incoming freshman Collin Murray-Boyles and elite transfer big BJ Mack have instilled optimism into Gamecock Nation.
That galvanized fan base now has its first glimpse into next season’s schedule. On Monday, the SEC released the home and away opponents for each SEC team. Official gamedays, tip-off times, and television information will be announced later.

South Carolina basketball will face an almost identical schedule of opponents as a season ago. 2-time opponents Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss will repeat as home-and-away games next season, and Vanderbilt’s 2-game series has been replaced with one against the Missouri Tigers.
The rest of the schedule is just a flip of last season’s. If the Gamecocks played a team on the road during the 2022-2023 season, they will play that team at home in 2023-2024. If South Carolina played a team at home last year, they will play that team on the road this season.

Mississippi State

Earlier this offseason, it was announced that the Gamecocks would take part in an interesting double-header. South Carolina basketball will play Virginia Tech in Charlotte on November 10th in what is likely the second game of the year for the Gamecocks (the Florida Gators will play the Virginia Cavaliers as the other leg of the double-header).
