South Carolina basketball alum Aja Wilson has been dominating her entire life. She was the number-1 ranked high school recruit in the nation coming out of Heathwood Hall in Columbia, South Carolina. As a Gamecock, she won a national championship and a Naismith Award as women’s college basketball’s undisputed best player.

Now in the WNBA, the awards keep coming. The two-time (and reigning) WNBA Most Valuable Player was recently selected as a captain for July’s WNBA All-Star Game after being the leading vote-getter among all players. She will have the honor of starting in front of her home fans in Las Vegas’ Michelob Ultra Arena.

As is routine for the Columbia native at this point, Aja Wilson has received another honor from the league this week.

On Tuesday, Aja Wilson was named as the WNBA’s Player of the Week in the Western Conference. For the week, Wilson led the Las Vegas Aces to a 2-0 record (with one win over fellow Gamecock and fellow WNBA All-Star starter Aliyah Boston).

For the week, Wilson averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks while shooting 56% from the floor in two lopsided victories.

This is the 11th time in Wilson’s storied career that she has received the honor of being named the Western Conference’s Player of the Week. She brought home the award once in 2018, twice in 2019, once in 2020, once in 2021, and five times in 2022.

For the season, Wilson is in the top-7 in the WNBA in scoring (19.6 points per game), rebounding (9.4 boards per game), and blocked shots (2.2 blocks per game). She is also shooting 53% from the field on the year. It is no coincidence that behind Wilson’s strong play, the Aces are a league-leading 13-1.

South Carolina basketball fans can watch Aja Wilson and Aliyah Boston start in the WNBA All-Star Game on July 15th at 8:30 EST on ABC.
