The South Carolina football program continues making waves by snatching recruits out of the prospect pool. A fifth #WelcomeHome tweet graced coach Shane Beamer’s timeline this weekend, and the Gamecocks’ headman made it known that the commitment was coming from one of the prospects on his official visit this weekend.
It didn’t take very long for the young man to step forward and share his news with the world.
On Monday night, David Bucey, a 3-star safety/linebacker from Savannah Christian Prep School, announced his commitment via his personal Twitter account.

Bucey is a linebacker for his high school squad at Savannah Christian, but he appears set to move to defensive back (likely safety) for the Gamecocks.
4-star South Carolina native Kelvin Hunter is the only other safety committed to the Gamecocks in the class at this time. 4-stars Malcolm Ziglar and Kaj Sanders have been big-time South Carolina targets up to this point in the recruiting process, but it is unclear how many safeties defensive backs coach Torrian Gray plans to take in this class.
Bucey is a high school teammate of the class of 2025’s top overall player, defensive lineman Elijah Griffin. Griffin is an athletic freak at 6’5″ and over 280 pounds. His future is likely inside at defensive tackle, but he has the athletic ability to play outside if he doesn’t add any more weight. South Carolina football is considered one of the early favorites to land Griffin.
Bucey’s commitment means that, of the five #WelcomeHome commitments that Shane Beamer has dropped on the head of Gamecock Nation, four have gone public. 5-star punter/placekicker Mason Love, 3-star linebacker Fred Johnson, and 4-star running back Matthew Fuller announced their commitments within the last two weeks.
*Love’s ranking comes via Kohl’s Kicking, Johnson is a consensus 3-star who could be moving up in the rankings based on recent trending, Fuller is a 4-star according to ESPN, and Bucey is rated as a linebacker and has only been graded by 247Sports.
