South Carolina Football: Ranking the top-10 defensive performances in Gamecock history

South Carolina Football’s No. 6 Greatest Defensive Performance of All-Time:
Jaycee Horn vs. Auburn
South Carolina football hadn’t beaten Auburn since 1933 when the two teams met in 2020. The Gamecocks were not a very good football team that season, and Carolina fans didn’t feel great about their chances, even in the friendly confines of Williams-Brice Stadium.
The top cornerback selected in the 2021 NFL Draft played for the Gamecocks, however, and he was perfect against the Tigers that Saturday afternoon…literally. Horn was targeted 6 times in the passing game, and he knocked away four of the passes and intercepted Auburn quarterback Bo Nix twice. Why Auburn elected to continue throwing the ball his way is a mystery, but it worked out for USC.
South Carolina went on to win the game after scoring touchdowns immediately following both of Horn’s interceptions. He also added three tackles, including one for a loss. Horn usually locked down one half of the field in the passing game, but his performance against Auburn was the best of them all.
