South Carolina Basketball’s No. 9 Greatest Forward of All-Time:
Frank Standard

Frank Standard (1965-1968) had his career overlap with another excellent forward named Gary Gregor. Gregor was a year older and missed some time in his career, but both players averaged double-doubles each year they were active whether they were playing with each other or without.

Fittingly named “standard,” consistency was Frank’s calling card as he averaged between 12.1 and 16.2 points and 10.4 and 11.3 rebounds per game every year of his career. In an era in which most scorers were inefficient, Standard shot almost 50% from the field.

Standard was an integral part of Frank McGuire’s early years at Carolina when McGuire was transitioning the Gamecocks from a perennial disappointment to a national power. He was selected in the 1968 NBA Draft, and he played professionally with college teammates Skip Harlicka and Gary Gregor.
