South Carolina Basketball’s No. 7 Greatest Forward of All-Time:
Carlos Powell

Carlos Powell (2001-2005) was a versatile combo forward who always figured out a way to score, no matter the situation. A willing shooter, Powell was a crafty driver who used both above-average athleticism and strength to get to his spot on the floor. He was a good player his entire career, but he had a tremendous senior year.

As a senior, Powell scored in double-figures in every game but one, and he really finished well. In the NIT, the left-handed shooter dominated the competition to the tune of 18 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals while defending very well.

After graduating, the two-time All-SEC forward traveled all over the world to continue his playing career with stints as an elite scorer in Portugal, Venezuela, China, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Israel, Ukraine, Iran, and the NBA’s D League.

He has since returned to his alma mater (Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina) as the boy’s basketball coach.
