South Carolina Football’s Greatest Offensive Performance of All-Time:
Spencer Rattler vs. Tennessee

Spencer Rattler had a tough start to his 2022 season after transferring to South Carolina from Oklahoma. Heading into a matchup with top-10 Tennessee in game 11, Rattler actually had more interceptions than touchdown passes and had only played well in two or three games on the year. My, oh my, how that changed against the Vols.

From the opening kickoff, South Carolina football looked ready to play in Williams-Brice Stadium that November night. It was cold outside, but #7 came out hot with a 3rd-down conversion, 4th-down conversion, and a touchdown on the game’s opening drive. After a quick answer from UT, Carolina converted another 4th down play, and then Rattler hit Josh Vann for a 60-yard score on the very next play. The offensive explosion was just getting started for the Gamecocks.

The rest of the night was more of the same as Spencer Rattler put up one of the most impressive passing performances in the history of college football: he put together one of less than 10 all-time performances with over 400 passing yards, 6 touchdowns, 0 turnovers, and an 80% completion percentage as he went 30-37 for 438 yards and 6 scores. He added 16 yards rushing and 16 more receiving as he almost caught a touchdown but was tackled inside the 5-yard line.

Rattler finished the game with 470 total yards, a Carolina record 6 touchdowns (nearly a 7th), and one epic beatdown of an orange rival that knocked them out of contention for the College Football Playoff.
