South Carolina Football: 4-star defensive lineman makes his commitment
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football has lots of irons in the fire on the defensive line in the 2024 recruiting cycle. One of the players they have been targeting is 4-star defensive lineman Justin Greene.
Greene is a 6’4″, 265-pound athlete who can play both inside and outside on the defensive line. His body appears set to add weight when he gets into a college strength and nutrition program, and, if that does happen, he will almost assuredly end up as a defensive tackle. Greene is athletic, enough, though, that if he doesn’t get too heavy, he could easily be an impact player on the EDGE.
A top-4 of Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn, and LSU make up Greene’s top suitors, and each of the schools has an official visit set up for the talented defensive lineman to see their campuses.
In a bit of a surprise, Greene turned to Twitter to make a big announcement on his own personal Twitter account.
The Mountain View High School standout announced a commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday.
Greene choosing the Bulldogs is not very surprising as Kirby Smart’s team was viewed as the favorite to land the big defensive lineman. However, what is surprising is that he went ahead and committed this early in the recruiting process.
Greene had visits scheduled to South Carolina, Auburn, and LSU coming up this month (including one to Carolina next weekend), but after his trip to Athens, he made his commitment known to the world. It is unclear if he intends to take those visits or if he will be shutting things down completely with his recruitment.
South Carolina football has no defensive linemen committed in the 2024 recruiting class at either defensive tackle or defensive end. #1-overall prospect Dylan Stewart headlines the list of Gamecock targets up front. Last year’s class brought in multiple 4-stars to Columbia, and the Gamecock coaching staff would like to see that success repeat for the 2024 cycle.
