A massive recruiting weekend in Columbia saw approximately 3240932 high school prospects visit the South Carolina football program. Ok, that number is a bit of an exaggeration, but the Gamecocks did serve as host to a large number of recruits, especially in the class of 2024.

One of the Gamecock targets on campus for the visit weekend only had to make a short drive down I-77 to make it to Columbia.

D’Nas White is a 3-star defensive tackle from Concord, North Carolina. White is considered one of the best prospects in the talent-rich Charlotte area and was on campus for his official visit this weekend. Also known as “Debo” (Gamecock fans have heard of a few guys with that nickname, right?), White is a mountain of a man, standing at 6’6″ tall and weighing in at over 310 pounds.

The Jay M. Robinson High School standout was once considered a 4-star prospect at an earlier point in his recruitment but is now a consensus 3-star.

South Carolina football does not have a defensive tackle committed for the 2024 recruiting cycle, and White is one of the top players on the Gamecock’s recruiting board. With several players on the roster who are juniors or seniors at the position (Tonka Hemingway, Alex “Boogie” Huntley, Elijah Davis, Nick Barrett), the defensive tackle room will be changing in the coming years.

Young tackles that the Gamecocks sign will have the opportunity to compete with underclassmen like Xzavier McLeod, TJ Sanders, Jamaal Whyce, D’Andre Martin, and Felix Hixon to fill those gaps (although, there is talk that Sanders could be an NFL guy sooner rather than later). The chance to play early should be a draw to defensive tackle recruits like White.

South Carolina football appears to be a heavy favorite to land White, but Virginia Tech is also a factor for the big man.
