South Carolina football has had a really nice run of kickers and punters. Names like Ryan Succop, Joseph Charlton, and Spencer Lanning have been some of the best special teamers to ever play for Gamecocks, and seven different Gamecock punters and kickers have signed at least one NFL contract since 2010. Now, Kai Kroeger and Mitch Jeter are well on their way to becoming all-time greats, as well.

One of the best kickers to ever play for the South Carolina football program is Elliott Fry. The skinny kid with a big leg broke Collin Mackie’s record for most points scored in Gamecock history, but the record only lasted five seasons as Parker White surpassed Fry’s 359 points scored to become the new record-holder.

During his Gamecock career, Fry developed into the second-most accurate kicker to ever don the block C on his helmet as he made an impressive 75% of his career field goals.

After graduating from South Carolina, Elliott Fry was out of football for a while before getting his first job in the AFL. His success there propelled him to the National Football League for the first time when he signed a deal with the Chicago Bears.

Since then Fry has bounced around the NFL. He had previously been on 10 different NFL rosters since coming into the league in 2019, had two stints with two of those teams, and even spent a spring season with the Orlando Apollos under his college head coach Steve Spurrier.

As of Thursday, Fry can now say he’s been part of 11 NFL squads.

According to reports, Fry signed a deal to join the Denver Broncos after the Broncos released long-time kicker Brandon McManus. As of now, Fry is the only kicker on the roster.

The Broncos will almost certainly sign another kicker to compete with Fry, but he has a chance to be one of two former Gamecock kickers to replace long-time starters in the NFL as Parker White is the favorite to win the starting job in Green Bay replacing Mason Crosby.

Fry will join fellow Gamecock alum Nate Adkins in Denver.
