South Carolina Football: Nation’s top player headed to Columbia this summer
By Kevin Miller
The South Carolina football team has been in hot pursuit of top 2024 prospect Dylan Stewart for a long time now. Stewart is a five-star EDGE player from Washington DC and is considered the top player in the country by On3.
Since the early days of his recruitment, Stewart has been heavily interested in the Gamecocks along with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Miami Hurricanes, and Georgia Bulldogs.
This weekend, Stewart’s official visit schedule began to take shape. According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the Friendship Collegiate Academy athlete will be taking four visits this summer.
South Carolina football joins Ohio State, Miami, and Georgia in hosting Stewart this June. Stewart will be in Athens June 2nd-4th, Coral Gables June 9th-11th, Columbus 16th-18th, and Columbia June 23rd-25th. It is unclear if he plans to use his fifth visit to go to Tuscaloosa or another program.
Carolina is getting Stewart’s fourth (and final) visit of June. In some recruitments, getting a final official visit is a good sign. South Carolina football fans are certainly hopeful that it is a good sign in their team’s pursuit of the talented EDGE.
Stewart is 6’5″ tall and 235 pounds, so he is thin to play with his hand in the dirt as a true defensive end. However, he has experience playing as a standup outside linebacker, as well, usually as a pass rusher.
Stewart is an athletic freak who is outrageously quick off the line. His almost 7-foot wingspan allows him to create more separation from his blockers than most players his weight.
At earlier points in his recruitment, Stewart was considered a South Carolina lean, and the Gamecocks are still viewed as potentially having the best chance of getting the 5-star in the boat. South Carolina football outside linebackers and defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas is Stewart’s primary recruiter for the Gamecocks.
