South Carolina Football Needs Xavier Legette to Be a Legitimate Threat for the Offense

South Carolina’s top receiver is Juice Wells, Trey Knox is a really good tight end, and players like Joshua Simon, Ahmarean Brown, and Eddie Lewis are sure to be contributors as pass catchers. However, 5th-year senior Xavier Legette needs to step into a bigger role for the offense. He had a good bowl game against Notre Dame that included one of the best throw-and-catch combos of the entire season, and he had a 100-yard kick return for a touchdown against Texas A&M.

Legette has always been extremely physically impressive: at 6’3″ and 220 pounds, he is one of the fastest players on the team. If he can play a prominent role in 2023, the Carolina offense will feature a legitimate deep threat who can also help out in the running game as a ball carrier on end-arounds and reverses. #17 won’t be one of the top two or three pass catchers on the team, but if he can be a consistent weapon that draws attention from the defense, Juice Wells should have a huge season out wide.
