100 days from South Carolina Football: 10 players who must make a jump in 2023

South Carolina Football Needs OD Fortune to Be Ready to Roll
O’Donnell Fortune is the second cornerback to make this list. This makes sense as the Gamecocks lost two NFL corners in Darius Rush and Cam Smith from last season’s team. Fortune has played sparingly in his three years in Columbia, but he started the Gator Bowl last season and returned an interception for a 100-yard touchdown.
While there is a chance that OD Fortune gets beaten out by another player at the corner spot opposite of Marcellas Dial (David Spaulding, KaJuan Banks, Emory Floyd, Keenan Nelson, Jalon Kilgore, and true freshman Vicari Swain will all be battling for spots all over the secondary), it seems highly unlikely that Fortune will be passed over for a starting job at both the outside corner spot and inside at nickel. The speedy kid from Sumter will be called upon to play a big role for the 2023 Gamecocks one way or another, and his team is counting on him to be ready to roll.
