South Carolina Football’s No. 9 Greatest Offense of All-Time:
2012

The 2012 South Carolina football team began the year as a dominant rushing attack behind Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Lattimore. The Gamecocks averaged almost 200 yards per game on the ground over the first six games, mostly from Lattimore. An all-time great LSU defense and a weird, turnover-infested game against Florida slowed those numbers down, and then Lattimore’s career was ended by a devastating knee injury against Tennessee.

The offense responded by becoming a very good pass-first team. Led by Connor Shaw and occasional heroics from Dylan Thompson, the final four Power 5 games of the season saw the Gamecocks pass for 1300 yards and 12 touchdowns as they didn’t lose again en route to their second-straight 11-win campaign.
