South Carolina Football trending positively for elite wide receiver recruit
By Kevin Miller
The South Carolina football program has already put together one of the best offensive line groups in the 2024 recruiting class (potential 5-star Josiah Thompson, 4-star Kam Pringle, 4-star Blake Franks, and 3-star Mike Williams), and Shane Beamer’s staff could be putting together a top-tier wide receiver class, as well.
With a large number of receivers leaving the program due to graduation and the NFL after 2023, securing commitments from a group of big-time receivers in the class of 2024 is essential. Right now, the Gamecocks only have one wide receiver commitment. Mazeo Bennett pledged his services to South Carolina after flipping from Tennessee. The Greenville High School standout is a consensus 4-star prospect.
Carolina also has been a top suitor for two blue chippers out wide for some time. Texas product Parker Livingstone and North Carolina native Jonathan Paylor are both 4-star receivers who the Gamecocks feel really good about their chances to land. Paylor has publicly called Carolina his leader in recent months, and Livingstone announced the Gamecocks as a finalist and a recipient of one of his official visits.
In the last couple of weeks, however, a new name has surfaced. Behind the scenes, South Carolina football has made a strong push for Virginia Beach receiver Keylen Adams. Adams is another consensus 4-star recruit who is expected to be able to contribute early at the college level due to his strong 6’1″ frame. He is a top-200 recruit according to 247Sports, On3, and ESPN.
Last week, the Gamecocks secured a surprise visit from the highest-rated recruit from the state of Virginia.
Immediately after leaving his visit on Friday, Adams’ positive comments regarding his trip to Columbia had Gamecock fans wondering if they had a shot at bringing in the talented wideout. On Saturday, he seemed to answer that question.
Adams announced his five finalists via his personal Twitter account. He also announced a commitment date.
South Carolina joins Alabama, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech as Adams’ finalists. He is seemingly set to announce his decision on July 13th.
