South Carolina football has a loaded target list at the running back position for the recruiting class of 2024. Players like Anthony Carrie, Daniel Hill, and Peyton Lewis all are rated as 4-star players by at least one major recruiting service, and all three players have a real interest in joining the Gamecocks. Carrie has already named South Carolina as a finalist, and Hill is expected to decide between Alabama and the Gamecocks.
On Friday, Lewis backed up a previous interview in which he said South Carolina was one of his two favorites by officially including the Gamecocks in his final grouping that also includes five traditional powerhouse programs.
Lewis named a final 6 group of South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Penn State. The Virginia native had previously said that Tennessee and Carolina were his favorites, and that may still be the case based on this new info. Lewis is considered a 4-star prospect by all major recruiting outlets other than Rivals, and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists the Gamecocks as the favorite to bring in the talented back.
Lewis’ game is predicated on speed. A highly-accomplished track star at the high school level, Lewis possesses straight-line speed and explosiveness that almost guarantee a role for him when he gets to college, even if he is not the starter at running back. He is under 200 pounds, so he does possess elite size at the position, but Lewis has a good frame that can add a few pounds when introduced to a college strength and conditioning program.
An official visit to the University of South Carolina is already on the books for Lewis this summer. He has previously been on campus for an unofficial visit, but there is something special about official visits. Head coach Shane Beamer and running backs coach Montario Hardesty (Lewis’ primary recruiter) will be sure to pull out all the stops when Lewis makes his way to Columbia.
