Now that spring practice is over and fall camp is still relatively far off, college football fans are focused on recruiting. The South Carolina football program has been one of the top-performing programs in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and the Gamecocks are well on their way to continuing that success all the way to Signing Day (both the early and traditional dates).
Kaj Sanders is a 4-star athlete (according to On3) from Bergen Catholic in New Jersey. He is a high-upside player who will likely play defensive back in college and is expected to be an impact player at the next level. On Saturday, Sanders announced his ten finalists.
Sanders’ final group of ten includes South Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Maryland, Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Miami. According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Sanders favors Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, and North Carolina above the rest of his finalists. He has announced a commitment date of July 30th via his personal Twitter account.
Sanders has good speed and runs track for his high school. He is light at 175 pounds, but his 6’0″ frame has room for growth. He also plays running back for Bergen Catholic which has made him dangerous with the ball in his hands after an interception or in the return game. His online film shows a player who covers a lot of ground in zone coverage over the top as a safety, but he also possesses the athletic ability and toughness to step up against the run, as well.
The Gamecocks currently have one safety (4-star Kelvin Hunter) and one other defensive back (4-star corner Braydon Lee) committed in the 2024 class.
