The South Carolina football program needs running backs. This is no secret as the Gamecocks only have two scholarship running backs on the roster in Juju McDowell and Newberry transfer Mario Anderson. Dakereon Joyner has moved over to help at the position, but the team is at its best when his versatility is part of the offense. Freshman DJay Braswell won’t be on campus until the summer, and, as of now, the program has not added a back through the transfer portal.

One of the primary uncommitted targets for the Gamecocks in the 2024 recruiting class is Mississippi athlete Daniel Hill. Hill has mainly played wide receiver for his high school in Meridian, Mississippi, but he is expected to make the full-time move to the backfield when he gets to college. At 6’2″ and 220 pounds, Hill is an explosive player who has more than enough size to hold up as a back in the SEC.

Hill is a big back and a consensus 4-star recruit. He has been high on the Gamecocks for a while, and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists the talented Hill as deciding between South Carolina and Alabama. Neither the Gamecocks nor the Crimson Tide have a running back committed in the 2024 cycle.

In recent days, Hill showed he is more than just a power back and a receiving threat as he displayed some top-end speed. He picked up two state championship rings over the weekend as he placed first in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles in the state of Mississippi.

With the Gamecocks seemingly being in a solid position as a top-2 school for the talented Hill, this recruitment will be one to watch over the coming months. He previously announced a group of finalists that included South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida State, Ole Miss, Oregon, LSU, and Mississippi State.
