South Carolina Football: 4-star receiver announces college choice
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football currently has one wide receiver committed in the class of 2024.
is a 4-star prospect from Greenville High School, and the Gamecock staff is extremely high on the possibility of Bennett becoming an excellent collegiate player. However, with at least five wide receivers leaving the program after the 2023 season, Bennett cannot and will not be the only 2024 receiver that the Gamecocks need to land in the class.
Last week, 4-star wide receiver prospect Channing Goodwin announced he would be making his commitment soon. The Charlotte native had recently named a 7-team final group of South Carolina, Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
On Sunday, via his personal Twitter account, Goodwin made his decision known to the public.
In what seemed to be relatively expected, Goodwin committed to the Michigan Wolverines and head coach Jim Harbaugh. Goodwin is the first receiver to pledge himself to the Wolverines in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and the 6’1″ athlete is the 16th commitment overall for the highly-decorated class headed to Ann Arbor.
Goodwin’s decision came on the heels of fellow Charlotte native and fellow wide receiver Micah Gilbert committing to Notre Dame. Both players were interested in the Gamecocks, but from the outside looking in, it appeared as if the Gamecocks did not make either player as much of a recruiting priority in recent months as they pursued other receivers (namely Jonathan Paylor and Parker Livingstone) with more urgency.
The South Carolina football program is still in great shape with its 2024 recruiting class. Currently a consensus top-10 group, the class is set to get even better. Players like Paylor, Livingstone, running back Daniel Hill, and a bevy of other elite prospects are extremely high on South Carolina, and Shane Beamer and company have put the Gamecocks in premium position to land a good number of them. Despite the decisions of Gilbert and Goodwin, South Carolina football fans have plenty of reason to be ecstatic with the recruiting efforts of their favorite program.
