The South Carolina football program continues its assault on the recruiting trail as prospect news comes in just about daily at this point. Commitments, official visits, unofficial visits, top-5s, and eyeball emojis are all over the place right now, and the Gamecocks seem to almost always be in the middle of it all. One name that made some news on Wednesday was Channing Goodwin.
Channing Goodwin is a 4-star wide receiver prospect out of Charlotte who named the Gamecocks a finalist last week. If South Carolina football can land the talented playmaker, he would be their second commitment in the class of 2024 at the wide receiver position along with Greenville High School product Mazeo Bennett. On Wednesday, Goodwin announced via his personal Twitter account that he will make his commitment public on Sunday, May 7th at 4:00.

In Goodwin’s initial Twitter announcement of his top-7 last week, he named South Carolina, Michigan, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest as the finalists for his commitment. He is expected to choose from one of these seven schools on Sunday when he announces.
At 6’1″ and just 175 pounds, Goodwin is thin, but he possesses some athletic upside that makes him very intriguing as a prospect. He is fast enough to be a deep threat and long enough to make plays as a possession receiver at the next level.
According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Goodwin is expected to pick the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday. Geographically, South Carolina is the closest campus to his current home in Charlotte, and the Gamecocks have made a positive impact on Goodwin in recent months.
Goodwin is one of several 4-star receivers heavily considering the Gamecocks, along with other impact players like Jonathan Paylor and Parker Livingstone.
Earlier this week, the Gamecocks missed out on fellow 4-star Charlotte receiver Micah Gilbert as he pledged his service to Notre Dame.
