South Carolina Football’s Most Impressive 2023 Spring Performers:
Wide Receiver/Quarterback/Running Back Dakereon Joyner

Dakereon Joyner has had some huge moments as a Gamecock despite rarely being a starter. In 2019, he led the Gamecocks through the second half and overtime of the upset against #3 Georgia in Athens after Ryan Hilinski was injured. In the Duke’s Mayo Bowl after the 2021 season, Joyner technically started at quarterback and got lots of snaps at the position as the Gamecock offense dominated the Tar Heels in the win. The end of the 2022 season saw Joyner take a lot of snaps at wildcat quarterback, and the offense was at its best when that wrinkle was working.

Joyner has added running back to his bag of positional versatility this offseason. With the question marks around the position, Gamecock fans can expect to see #5 line up in the backfield some as he contributes all over the offense this fall. Despite being a sixth-year senior who has contributed for years, he was selected as one of the team’s Most Improved award winners this spring.
