South Carolina Football’s Most Impressive 2023 Spring Performers:
Running Back Juju McDowell

Juju McDowell is the only returning scholarship back for the Gamecocks, but the 5’9″, 180-pound McDowell is not the prototypical every-down running back. He likely still will not be that in 2023, but he had a good spring. Some of his best offseason work came on special teams where he contributes as a returner and as a gunner. McDowell will likely not be the starter at either return spot (Xavier Legette for kickoffs, Ahmarean Brown for punts), but he will push those players and also be a valuable coverage player.

McDowell’s spring ended with a couple of team awards. He was chosen as one of two Jim Carlen Special Teams Player of the Spring award winners, and he was given the Offensive South Carolina Spirit award for being a good teammate and hard worker.
