South Carolina Football’s Most Impressive 2023 Spring Performers:
Defensive Backs DQ Smith and Nick Emmanwori

DQ Smith and Nick Emmanwori were the most impressive young safety duo in the country last season as both first-year players made at least one Freshman All-American team. The duo has been the topic of position change rumors this offseason (Smith to nickel, Emmanwori to linebacker), but, as of now, neither player seems to be going anywhere.

Both young men have gotten even better this offseason. Smith was chosen as one of the recipients of the Jim Carlen Special Teams award and has continued to progress to become a more well-rounded defensive back. Emmanwori has reportedly also improved in pass coverage, probably his only weakness shown during his freshman season.
